Government of India had set some rules and regulations of which goods to import and weight of the goods and following are the rules for importing through courier.
- Animals and Plants are not allowed to be imported through courier.
- Perishable goods are not to be imported through courier.
- Precious and Semi Precious products like gold or silver or stones in any form are not accepted as imported products.
- The facility of custom clearance is available at airport in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Jaipur etc.
- The imports of the couriers are allowed through courier companies which are said to be registered with customs department.
- The weight limit of courier or express is fixed 70kgs.
- The goods are categorized into Documents, Samples & Free Gifts, Commercial Goods.
- Documents, samples and free gifts are not attracted by customs duty. Hence simplified bill of entry is enough for its clearance.
- In case of imported goods, a notice is required to be issues to authorized courier by the courier companies and disposed after the expiry of 30 days.
- The courier company should bear the charges for storage and holding of such goods by authorized courier.
